Follow-Along Sheets

This week’s follow-along sheet is the work of Pastor John Jay, who misses drawing and is happy to have the chance again.

Share your prayers

There are a few options for sharing your prayers and gratitudes. Below is a form that will be shared with our team. We also have a prayer wall on this site where we publicly share these prayers with our community. If you wish for your prayer/gratitude to stay private, no problem—just let us know in the form. And if you need to grab a phone call with someone from our Prayer Team, there is a button for that, too.

How to listen

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” This is a very different kind of work than our normal Sunday morning worship, but it is worship all the same. This liturgy is still very much the work of our people, as you will hear each week. Making this worship experience together is a balm for our soul. It is a kind of sacred offering at a time when it feels so precious to share something good, so I hope you receive this in gladness. As best as possible, settle into this present moment of your day. Close your news feeds, your social media, and find a quiet place to listen. We share this content on our own site so that you have a quieter visual space to engage. No social media ads or friend requests pinging left and right.

This page has started to gather a lot of content since we began so many weeks ago. We now have weekly follow-along coloring/doodle sheets, ways to engage in prayer together, lyrics for singing and more. So take your time on this page, engaging each piece of the liturgy as you are ready. Also, we encourage you to share this page with people you love and care about, especially those who are not connected to a faith community in this season of separation. You can post the link to this page on social media, but even better is a text message right to someone’s phone. It is more personal, which is always better right now. We need as much goodness as we can find, and this liturgy is very good stuff.

Each Sunday we will post an offering here, until such a time as it is unnecessary. We pray for that day.

less without you,

Pastor John Jay and this beautiful community of FBCP

Share a blessing with Temna

Use the form below and we will send your notes his way. And thank you for blessing our friend Temna.

Acts 2:1-4

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

Atos 2:1-4

Acts 2:5-12

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.” All were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

hechos 2:5-12

Acts 2:42-47

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.

Lyrics*

set a fire

No place I would rather be
No place I would rather be
No place I would rather be
Than here in Your love
Here in Your love

(So) set a fire down in my soul
That I can't contain and I can't control
I want more of You God
I want more of You God

amazing grace

Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

(last verse in Nagamese)

holy spirit

There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
Nothing can compare
You're our living hope
Your Presence

I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
In Your Presence Lord

Holy Spirit You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory God is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your Presence Lord
Your Presence Lord

Let us become more aware of Your Presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness

my song is love unknown

Lyrics to Offering song

My song is love unknown,
My Savior's love to me;
Love to the loveless shown,
That they might lovely be.
O who am I,
That for my sake
My Lord should take
Frail flesh, and die?

He came from His blest throne
Salvation to bestow;
But men made strange, and none
The longed-for Christ would know:
But oh, my Friend,
My Friend indeed,
Who at my need
His life did spend.

Sometimes they strew His way,
And His sweet praises sing;
Resounding all the day
Hosannas to their King:
Then "Crucify!"
Is all their breath,
And for His death
They thirst and cry.

They rise and needs will have
My dear Lord made away;
A murderer they save,
The Prince of life they slay.
Yet cheerful He
To suffering goes,
That He His foes
From thence might free.

Here might I stay and sing,
No story so divine;
Never was love, dear King,
Never was grief like Thine.
This is my Friend,
In whose sweet praise
I all my days
Could gladly spend

Credits

What a wonderful group of friends we had on this week’s Pentecost liturgy! Lindsay welcomed us. The Alvaros were joined by community choir members Karen, Bill E., Holly, and Bill D. to usher us into worship as we celebrate the birth of the church. Angel, Ruth, Lisa and John Jay shared a healthy dose of gratitude. Our scripture reading this morning was shared by Clara in Portuguese, Mateo in Spanish, and Harriet in Cantonese. Temna blessed us with a beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace, both in English and his native tongue! Gretchen brought a good word with our Sunday teaching. Guest worship leader, Josh Marmol, returned for an encore performance this week. John Jay led us into a time of generosity while Paul provided the musical selection during our time of offering. As always, Leslie oversaw the production with her amazing juggling skills and keeping it in the family, Warren wrapped it all up with the end credits. Harriet Tam master mixed it all to create this collaborative worship experience. John Jay created the follow-along sheet. Mary made a special visit to some of our church friends to help make the kid video.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
