Liturgy for wherever you are

Easter Sunday | Luke 24:1-12

March 31, 2024

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. Crown Him With Many Crowns

Matthew Bridges

Crown Him with many crowns
The Lamb upon His throne
Hark how the heavenly anthem drowns
All music but its own
Awake my soul and sing
Of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King
Through all eternity

Crown Him the Lord of love
Behold His hands and side
Those wounds yet visible above
In beauty glorified
All hail Redeemer hail
For thou hast died for me
Thy praise and glory shall not fail
Throughout eternity

Crown Him the Lord of life
Who triumphed o’er the grave
Who rose victorious in the strife
For those He came to save
His glories now we sing
Who died and rose on high
Who died eternal life to bring
And lives that death may die

Crown Him the Lord of heaven
One with the Father known
One with the Spirit thro’ him given
From yonder glorious throne
To Thee be endless praise
For Thou for us hast died
Be Thou O Lord thro’ endless days
Adored and magnified

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today

Charles Wesley | Samuel Arnold

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and Heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Dying once, He all doth save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee

Edward Hodges, Henry Van Dyke, Ludwig van Beethoven

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee
God of glory, Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee
Hail Thee as the Son above

Joy in my soul, joy in my soul
Joy in my soul, joy in my soul

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee
God of glory, Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee
Hail Thee as the Son of love
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee
Earth and heaven reflect Your rays
Stars and angels sing around Thee
Center of unbroken praise
Field and forest, vale and mountain
Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea
Chanting bird and flowing fountain
Praising You eternally!

Blessed Assurance

Fanny Jane Crosby | Phoebe Palmer Knapp

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight!
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blessed;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! John Jay welcomed us. John Jay led Roman through the waters of baptism. Lindsay offered a welcoming pastoral word. Chip read scripture. John Jay provided us with a reflection and offered up the benediction. John Jay and Marcie invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were Leslie, Warren, Jonathan, Rick, Chris B, Paul and the FBCP Choir. Leslie oversaw the production while Kenny worked his technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
