Sunday Special | EP 25

Happy Sunday, Friends!

In today's video, we have some special guests from our FBCP family who share what they’re feeling about being in online school. They also talk about what they do when online learning gets hard. We pray you are encouraged as you see some church friends and listen to their wisdom!

APPLY IT

  • Remember that whatever emotions you are feeling are important to pay attention to! As Ada mentioned, you might need to take a break to get your feelings out before getting back to your work (and maybe use your mute button to help!). And you can always take a break to read a Bible verse that reminds you of God's love and help. You have the help of a God who loves you so much!

  • This article has some simple reminders about how to help kids thrive in the midst of online learning. Some of these ideas may seem obvious, but I know I can always use a good reminder!

We miss you and love you! Have a great week spreading compassion!

Much love,

Pastors Lindsay and Mary

Hi, Friends!

We are thinking of you and praying for you, especially in the wake of more violence and trauma in our country. If you or your kids need to pray with or talk to a pastor, we are here for you and ready to pick up a phone or come to your front lawn.

As another week of school winds down, we are mindful that there are many needs that may have emerged already. Whenever we can, we want to support you, including tangible ways. If your child does not have adequate technology or supplies to do their schoolwork, then let us know! We may be able to fill a need and would be privileged to do so. That's what the family of God is all about!

SAVE THE DATE!

On Saturday, September 19 at 10:30 AM we are inviting families with kids to join us for our first Family Fun Fest in the church park area! We will have spots for families to hang out while staying a safe distance apart on the grass area, and we invite you to bring blankets or chairs. There will be kid-friendly worship and activities for families to do together. We hope you'll join us for this chance to worship and have fun together.

AUDIOBOOKS AND PODCASTS FOR KIDS

This page has lots of podcasts and audiobooks for kids to engage with (and once they are set up to listen, they won't need to be on the screen!). It includes game shows, books, and interactive mystery and learning programs, and some are geared for the whole family. This site has even more listed by category if your kids really dig listening.

Sunday

DRIVE-IN CHURCH

Plan to come around 10:00 AM to settle into a spot and greet your friends! We will have snacks and activity sheets ready for kids and youth. Parents, if you can remind your kids to grab their favorite coloring/drawing utensils, that would be awesome. We hope to see you there if that works for your family, but no matter what, we are praying for you and sending so much love.

KID VIDEO

This Sunday we are joined by some special guests who just started virtual school. We are excited to hear from them and to think about how we can stay encouraged when circumstances are strange and hard.

YOUTH ZOOM

Please note that the youth Zoom is scheduled for 2PM to accommodate for those who are attending Drive-In Church. Here is the meeting link that you can use each week to hop on the hangout. We can't wait to hang out with our youth!

Sending you so much love and virtual hugs!

With gratitude for you,

Pastor Lindsay & Pastor Mary

Phenomenal Friday #35

A WORD ABOUT TODAY’S VIDEO

I recorded this daily video in one take, didn’t make notes to script all the right words. I am feeling my way through this moment just like you are, improvising my faith in line with the way I have been formed by the Spirit. So while this might meander around at times, it is an honest appraisal of where my heart is in this time of racial trauma and the reopening of ancient wounds. I left out plenty I planned on sharing, probably stumbled on language that is imprecise. Forgive me these moments, and I pray you can hear what God was moving me to share. We are making plans. We are on the streets. We are in our homes praying. Some of us are scared. Some of us are mad. Others are confused and lost. All of us are held by God, moved by the Spirit, and joined by the resurrected Christ. You are not alone. God is with you. And all of us.

Field Guide

Once, in the cool blue middle of a lake,
up to my neck in that most precious element of all,

I found a pale-gray, curled-upwards pigeon feather
floating on the tension of the water

at the very instant when a dragonfly,
like a blue-green iridescent bobby pin,

hovered over it, then lit, and rested.
That’s all.

I mention this in the same way
that I fold the corner of a page

in certain library books,
so that the next reader will know

where to look for the good parts.

Sunday Special | EP 24

Happy Sunday, Friends!

Last week we led through a blessing of all the important places in your home in preparation for the start of school. This week we have some encouraging verses to share with you and ideas for ways you can use scripture to help you when you feel afraid or overwhelmed.  Make sure you see the printout below to make your own scripture cards!

Here is the handout with the verses that you can cut out. We also encourage you to write or type your own favorite verses from the Bible on notes, too.  (Here is the Google Doc version in case you want to make up some more!). We pray that you are inspired, comforted, and encouraged by the word of God!

We miss you and love you! Have a great week spreading compassion!

Much love,

Pastors Lindsay and Mary

FBCP Families | Weekday Wonders 22

Hi, Friends!

Happy Friday and congratulations to those who made it through their first week of school! We are praying for continued focus, joy, and help with learning to constantly flow to you from God. You are not alone, and we are here to help in any way we can. We have a few fun resources to share with you this week, and we hope that you will find time to rest and play with leisure as you allow God to recharge you for a new week ahead.

New Wonders

Toilet Paper Rolls to the Rescue

This post has lots of ways you can use toilet paper rolls to make something super cool! There are ideas that are just silly, some that help us navigate our emotions, and some that are geared towards learning, Save those rolls!

Outdoor Cootie Catcher

Print and cut this out (or just steal the ideas!) to give your kids some new things to try doing outside. It works even if you're not in the woods, and kids could always come up with new ideas to add. My favorites: Finding ways to make music outside and being a garbage predator!)

For the Parents

This article has three simple reminders for parents who are navigating so much right now as the school year starts. There are certainly lots of parenting strategies and philosophies, so take what's helpful here and don't worry about the rest!

Kid Video

This Sunday we are going to help kids place some encouraging words around their learning spaces to help them as they begin week two of virtual school. We are praying for parents, kids, and teachers as they settle into a new routine in some challenging circumstances. You are amazing!

Youth Zoom

Our Middle and High School Youth Zoom is scheduled for 2PM to accommodate for those who are attending Drive-In Church. Here is the meeting link that you can use each week to hop on the hangout. We can't wait to hang out with our youth, and this week we are welcoming some new six graders!

Sending you so much love and virtual hugs!

With gratitude for you,

Pastor Lindsay & Pastor Mary
