Liturgy for wherever you are

Epiphany Sunday | Matthew 6

January 7, 2024

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. Lyrics*

Holy, Holy, Holy

John Bacchus Dykes | Reginald Heber

Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy!
Though the darkness hide thee
Though the eye of sinful ones
Thy glory may not see
Only Thou art holy
There is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love and purity

Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty
All thy works shall praise Thy name
In earth and sky and sea
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity!

Blessed Assurance

Fanny Crosby

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.

This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect communion, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight.
Angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Perfect submission, all is at rest.
I in my Savior am happy and bless’d,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love.

Nothing But the Blood

Robert Lowry

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

O precious is the flow
that makes me white as snow;
no other fount I know;
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

For my pardon this I see:
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my cleansing this my plea:
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Nothing can for sin atone:
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Naught of good that I have done:
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

This is all my hope and peace:
nothing but the blood of Jesus.
This is all my righteousness:
nothing but the blood of Jesus.

The Greatest Commandment

Paul Zach

Love the Lord Your God
With all your heart and soul and mind,
and love your neighbor as yourself.

Let us be known, let us be known by the way we love.

Love, love, love, the greatest commandment is
Love, love, love, the greatest commandment is
Love, love, love, the greatest commandment is love.

Doxology

Thomas Ken

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Chip welcomed us and he and Judy invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Jessica H called us into worship. Grace led us in communal prayer. Jason E led us in communion. Le Bienfaiteur read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. Adam invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were John Jay, Paul, Bri, Nat, Rick and Scott. Chip reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. John Jay oversaw the production while Kenny worked his technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
