Liturgy for wherever you are

Third Sunday after Epiphany

January 22, 2023

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ.

The Love of God

Frederick Martin Lehman

The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from their sin.

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And everyone a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

Great are You, Lord

David Leonard | Jason Ingram | Leslie Jordan

You give life You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope You restore ev'ry heart that is broken
Great are You Lord

It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise to You only

And all the earth will shout Your praise
Our hearts will cry these bones will sing
Great are You Lord

Lord, I Need You

Christy Nockels | Daniel Carson | Jesse Reeves | Kristian Stanfill | Matt Maher

 So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus You’re my hope and stay

Lord I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
And without You, I fall apart
You’re the one that guides my heart

Lord I need You, oh I need You
Ev’ry hour I need You
My one defense my righteousness
Oh God how I need You

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where you are Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Chip welcomed us and invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Grace called us into worship. Lindsay honored our Volunteer of the Month. The wonderful choir from Hoving Home led us with testimonies and singing. Taylor led us in communal prayer. Aimee read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching, blessed our friend Jesse and gave us a benediction. Stephen L. invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were Leslie, Cynthia, Dave, Cindie, Jason C, Warren, Chris T. and Rick. Chip and Mady reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Dave and Ian worked their technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
