Liturgy for wherever you are

January 26, 2025 | Philippians 4:15-23

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. What a Friend We Have in Jesus

Charles Crozat Converse | Joseph Medlicott Scriven | Adam Westlake | Ross Fishburn

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer
Oh what peace we often forfeit
Oh what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations
Is there trouble anywhere
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Precious Jesus Lord and friend
I give everything to You
Shelter Shepherd Savior King
I give everything to You

Are we weak and heavy-laden
Cumbered with a load of care
Precious Savior still our refuge
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Do thy friends despise forsake thee
Take it to the Lord in prayer
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee
Thou wilt find a solace there

The Joy of the Lord

Chris Llewellyn | Ed Cash | Gareth Gilkeson

Though the tears may fall my song will rise
My song will rise to You
Though my heart may fail my song will rise
My song will rise to You
While there’s breath in my lungs
I will praise You Lord

In the dead of night I’ll lift my eyes
I’ll lift my eyes to You
When the waters rise I’ll lift my eyes
I’ll lift my eyes to You
While there’s hope in this heart
I will praise You Lord

The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength
In the darkness I’ll dance
In the shadows I’ll sing
The joy of the Lord is my strength

When I cannot see You with my eyes
Let faith arise to You
When I cannot feel Your hand in mine
Let faith arise to You
God of mercy and love I will praise You Lord

Oh You shine with glory Lord of light
I feel alive with You
In Your presence now I come alive
I am alive with You
There is strength when I say
I will praise You Lord

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
The joy of the Lord is my strength

You Carried Me

Will Reagan | United Pursuit

Holy, God of our faith
You are welcome in this place
You are welcome in this place

Come fill our hearts up
Come fill our hearts up
With Your presence

Sweet Lord, sustain us
You carry me
You carry me on the wings of love

You Hold It All Together

Alton Eugene | Edward Rivera | Elyssa Smith | Garrett Abel | Naomi Raine

You come at the right time
When I least expect it never behind
So why would I be surprised
When You deliver every time

On mountaintops
You stay the same
In valleys low
You never change

And I believe that I will see
The goodness of the Lord
I’m confident as seasons change
Your faithfulness remains

God of my present
God of my future
You write my story
You hold it all together

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! John Jay welcomed us, and he and Chip invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Buki called us into worship. Gaby led us in communal prayer. Tariq read scripture. Lindsay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. John Jay invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were Leslie, John Jay, Mitch, Dave, Cindie E, Nat, Tim and Scott. Lindsay reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Steph worked their technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
