Liturgy for wherever you are

Fourth Sunday of Epiphany | Genesis 34:1-31

January 28, 2024

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. My Hope is Built on Nothing Less

Charlie Hall | Edward Mote | Kendall Combes | Trent Austin | William Batchelder Bradbury

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus' name

On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In ev’ry high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

Oh You Bring

Matt Crocker

Oh you bring hope to the hopeless
And light to those in the darkness
And death to life now I'm alive

Oh you give peace to the restless
And joy to homes that are broken
I see you now, in you I'm found

And you opened the door for me
And you laid down
Your life to set me free
All that I am will serve you Lord

Oh you fill those who are empty
And rescue those in the valley
And through it all you calm my soul

Oh you find me in my weakness
And heal the wounds of my heartache
I worship you in spirit and truth

And you opened my eyes to see
All the wonder and awe of Christ in me
Jesus you're everything I need

All honor
All glory
All praise to you

God of Justice Love and Mercy

Edward M. Willmington

God of justice love and mercy
Pour Your wisdom on our souls
By Your all sustaining power
Keep our spirits strong and whole
Lift our eyes to see Your vision
Of a world in urgent need
Grant us courage then to follow
Bringing comfort with each deed

God of justice love and mercy
With compassion let us care
As we come in humble weakness
May Your strength be ours to share
Press our hearts to know the struggle
Of the ones we cannot see
Brothers sisters all who suffer
May Your kindness set them free

God of justice love and mercy
Send us out and make us bold
As we strive for Your high calling
Let our hands Your mercies hold
You have blessed us with abundance
Gifts to share with those in need
Father Son and Holy Spirit
May we follow as You lead

Cornerstone

Edward Mote | Eric Liljero | Jonas Myrin | Reuben Morgan | William Batchelder Bradbury

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' name

Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Savior's love
Through the storm
He is Lord
Lord of all

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Lindsay welcomed us. Bri and Ada invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Iris called us into worship. John Jay led us through the dedication of Baby Idara. Saskia led us in communal prayer. Mary G. read scripture. Lindsay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. Mady invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were Leslie, Warren, Ainsley, Tilli, Rick and Scott. Sally and Marcie reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Kenny worked his technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
