Liturgy for wherever you are

First Week of Lent | Genesis 38

February 18, 2024

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. Holy, Holy, Holy

John Bacchus Dykes | Reginald Heber

Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty
Early in the morning
Our song shall rise to Thee
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy!
Though the darkness hide thee
Though the eye of sinful ones
Thy glory may not see
Only Thou art holy
There is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love, and purity

Holy, holy, holy!
Lord God Almighty
All thy works shall praise Thy name
In earth and sky and sea
Holy, holy, holy!
Merciful and mighty
God in three persons
Blessed Trinity!

Reckless Love

Caleb Culver | Cory Asbury | Ran Jackson

Before I spoke a word, You were singing over me
You have been so, so good to me
Before I took a breath, You breathed Your life in me
You have been so, so kind to me

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it, I don't deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me
You have been so, so good to me
When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me
You have been so, so kind to me

There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me

Way Maker

Osinachi Kalu Okoro Egbu

You are here moving in our midst
I worship You I worship You
You are here working in this place
I worship You I worship You

Way Maker Miracle Worker Promise Keeper
Light in the darkness my God that is who You are
Way Maker Miracle Worker Promise Keeper
Light in the darkness my God that is who You are

You are here turning lives around
I worship You, I worship You
You are here mending ev’ry heart
I worship You I worship You

Even when I don’t see it You’re working
Even when I don’t feel it You’re working
You never stop You never stop working
You never stop You never stop working

King of My Heart

John Mark McMillan | Sarah McMillan

Let the King of my heart
Be the mountain where I run
The fountain I drink from
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the shadow where I hide
The ransom for my life
Oh He is my song

You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh
You are good good oh

Let the King of my heart
Be the wind inside my sails
The anchor in the waves
Oh He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the fire inside my veins
The echo of my days
Oh He is my song

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Chip welcomed us, and he and Hazel invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Mary G called us into worship. Global servants Tim and Patti Long updated us on their ministry. Lindsay led us in communal prayer. Stephen L read scripture. Lindsay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. John S invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were Leslie, Jonathan, Halle, Jason E and Chris B. Chris J and Sara reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Kenny worked his technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
