Liturgy for wherever you are

Second Sunday of Lent | Genesis 39:1-6

February 25, 2024

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. In the River

Chris Quilala | Joshua Silverberg | Mark Alan Schoolmeesters | Ryan Williams

There is a river
Where goodness flows
There is a fountain
That drowns sorrow
There is an ocean
Deeper than fear
The tide is rising rising

There is a current
Stirring deep inside
It's overflowing
From the heart of God
The flood of heaven
Crashing over us
The tide is rising rising

Bursting bursting
Up from the ground we feel it now
Bursting bursting
Up from the ground we feel it now

We come alive in the river
We come alive in the river
We come alive in the river
We come alive in the river

Break open prison doors
Set all the captives free
Spring up a well spring up a well
Spring up a well in me
Nothing can stop this joy
We're dancing in the streets
Spring up a well spring up a well
Spring up a well in me

Be Thou My Vision

Eleanor Henrietta Hull | Mary Elizabeth Byrne | Ascend the Hill

Be Thou my vision O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me save that Thou art
Thou my best thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping Thy presence my light

Be Thou my wisdom and Thou my true word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me Lord
Thou my great Father and I Thy true child
Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one

Riches I heed not nor man's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance now and always
Thou and Thou only first in my heart
High King of heaven my treasure Thou art

High King of heaven my victory won
May I reach heaven’s joys O bright heaven’s Sun
Heart of my own heart whatever befall
Still be my vision O ruler of all

God With Us

Jason Ingram | Leslie Jordan

Oh You've come to bring peace to be Love
To be nearer to us
You've come to bring life to be Light
To shine brighter in us
Oh Emmanuel God with us

Our Deliverer You are Savior
In Your presence we find our strength
Over ev'rything our Redemption
God with us
You are God with us

Oh You've come to be Hope to this world
For Your honor and name
And You've come to take sin to bear shame
And to conquer the grave
Oh Emmanuel God with us

You are here
You are holy
We are standing in Your glory (Lord)

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Melinda and Chris M welcomed us and invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Jason E called us into worship. John Jay introduced John Williams from the Center for Restorative Justice. Chip led us in communal prayer and read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. Brandon invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Chip honored our Volunteer of the Month and reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together with Sarah K. Bill D and John Jay provided our offertory. Our other musicians this morning were Leslie, Jason E, Natalee, Rick and Lorenzo. Leslie oversaw the production while Kenny worked his technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
