Liturgy for wherever you are

Fourth Sunday of Lent

March 19, 2023

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ.

Be Thou My Vision

Eleanor Henrietta Hull | Mary Elizabeth Byrne | Ascend the Hill

Be Thou my vision O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me save that Thou art
Thou my best thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping Thy presence my light

Be Thou my wisdom and Thou my true word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me Lord
Thou my great Father and I Thy true child
Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one

Riches I heed not nor man's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance now and always
Thou and Thou only first in my heart
High King of heaven my treasure Thou art

O God be my everything, be my delight
Be Jesus my glory, my soul satisfied

High King of heaven my victory won
May I reach heaven’s joys O bright heaven’s Sun
Heart of my own heart whatever befall
Still be my vision O ruler of all

Oh You Bring

Matt Crocker

Oh you bring hope to the hopeless
And light to those in the darkness
And death to life now I'm alive

Oh you give peace to the restless
And joy to homes that are broken
I see you now, in you I'm found

And you opened the door for me
And you laid down
Your life to set me free
All that I am will serve you Lord

Oh you fill those who are empty
And rescue those in the valley
And through it all you calm my soul

Oh you find me in my weakness
And heal the wounds of my heartache
I worship you in spirit and truth

And you opened my eyes to see
All the wonder and awe of Christ in me
Jesus you're everything I need

All honor
All glory
All praise to you

O The Deep Deep Love of Jesus

Samuel Trevor Francis | Thomas John Williams

O the deep deep love of Jesus
Vast unmeasured boundless free
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me
Underneath me all around me
Is the current of Your love
Leading onward leading homeward
To my glorious rest above

O the deep deep love
All I need and trust
Is the deep deep love of Jesus

O the deep deep love of Jesus
Spread His praise from shore to shore
How He loveth ever loveth
Changeth never nevermore
How He watches o'er His loved ones
Died to call them all His own
How for them He’s interceding
Watches o’er them from the throne

O the deep deep love of Jesus
Love of every love the best
’Tis an ocean vast of blessing
’Tis a haven sweet of rest
O the deep deep love of Jesus
’Tis a heaven of heavens to me
And it lifts me up to glory
For it lifts me up to Thee

Reckless Love

Caleb Culver | Cory Asbury | Ran Jackson

Before I spoke a word, You were singing over me
You have been so, so good to me
Before I took a breath, You breathed Your life in me
You have been so, so kind to me

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights 'til I'm found, leaves the ninety-nine
I couldn't earn it, I don't deserve it, still, You give Yourself away
Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God

When I was Your foe, still Your love fought for me
You have been so, so good to me
When I felt no worth, You paid it all for me
You have been so, so kind to me

There's no shadow You won't light up
Mountain You won't climb up
Coming after me
There's no wall You won't kick down
Lie You won't tear down
Coming after me

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Chip welcomed us. Chris T. and Jessica H. invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Chip called us into worship. Zach Hoover. led us in communal prayer. Charlie read scripture. John Jay and John Kelly provided us with a teaching. Aimee invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were Leslie, Warren, Bri, Rick, and Galvin. Bunny and Chip reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Harriet worked her technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
