Liturgy for wherever you are

Luke 22:44-53 | May 4, 2025

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. To listen to previous liturgies, you can visit our Soundcloud page below to browse the archives.

Listening to the Livestream

A little before 10:30 AM you should see a play button (circle with a triangle in it) appear in the box below. Press that play button when it appears, and you should be able to hear the service live! We always start the livestream a few minutes before the service begins, so you may hear some chatter or worship music playing at first. Know that you are with us in Spirit as you worship from wherever you are.

If you come to this page after Sunday worship but before the recorded sermon is posted in its entirety, please come back again! The full recording is posted by noon on Tuesday.

Lyrics*

In the River

Chris Quilala | Joshua Silverberg | Mark Alan Schoolmeesters | Ryan Williams

There is a river
Where goodness flows
There is a fountain
That drowns sorrow
There is an ocean
Deeper than fear
The tide is rising rising

There is a current
Stirring deep inside
It's overflowing
From the heart of God
The flood of heaven
Crashing over us
The tide is rising rising

Bursting bursting
Up from the ground we feel it now
Bursting bursting
Up from the ground we feel it now

We come alive in the river
We come alive in the river
We come alive in the river
We come alive in the river

Break open prison doors
Set all the captives free
Spring up a well spring up a well
Spring up a well in me
Nothing can stop this joy
We're dancing in the streets
Spring up a well spring up a well
Spring up a well in me

Christ the Lord Is Risen Today

Charles Wesley | Samuel Arnold

Christ the Lord is risen today, Alleluia!
Earth and Heaven in chorus say, Alleluia!
Raise your joys and triumphs high, Alleluia!
Sing, ye heavens, and earth, reply, Alleluia!

Lives again our glorious King, Alleluia!
Where, O death, is now thy sting? Alleluia!
Dying once, He all doth save, Alleluia!
Where thy victory, O grave? Alleluia!

Love’s redeeming work is done, Alleluia!
Fought the fight, the battle won, Alleluia!
Death in vain forbids Him rise, Alleluia!
Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!

Soar we now where Christ has led, Alleluia!
Following our exalted Head, Alleluia!
Made like Him, like Him we rise, Alleluia!
Ours the cross, the grave, the skies, Alleluia!

Communion

Tony Brown | Steffany Frizzell Gretzinger | Dante Bowe | Brandon Lake | Jonathan Jay

Take me back to the garden
Lead me back to the moment I heard Your
voice
Take me back to communion
Lead me back to the moment I saw Your
face

And it was oh so simple
It was easy to love
And no space between us
It was easy to trust

'Cause You are closer closer than my
skin
And You are in the air I'm breathing in
And here's where the dead things come
back to living
I feel my heart beating again
It feels so good to know You are my
friend

This is the garden
Here in the place I find You close
This is communion
Here in the place I'm fully known

And it was oh so simple
You're so easy to love
And no space between us
You're so easy to trust

This is where I'm meant to be
Me and You and You and me
I don't have to prove a thing
You've already approved of me

Our Father

Marcus Meier

Our Father in Heaven
Hallowed be Your name
Your Kingdom come quickly
Your will be done the same

On Earth as it is in Heaven
Let Heaven come to
Earth as it is in Heaven
Let Heaven come

Let Heaven come, let Heaven come

Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the power
Yours is the glory forever, amen
Yours is the Kingdom, Yours is the power
Yours is the glory forever amen

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Andrew welcomed us, and he and Justice invited us into a practice of shared gratitude. Buki called us into worship. Leslie oriented us for worship through song. Chip led us in prayer. Wendy read our scripture. Lindsay led us in communion. John Jay provided our teaching and offered a benediction. Gaby invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Paul provided our offertory. Our other musicians this morning were Leslie, Sam, Dave, Cindie, Rick, Chris B, and the FBCP Choir. Leslie and John Jay reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Steph worked their technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
