  • Friends In Deed - The Friends In Deed food pantry item for this Sunday (May 24) are baking items (flour, sugar, oil, etc). Thank you for helping with this!

  • Leadership Nominations - Want to nominate or recommend someone in the congregation for a leadership role such as an ordination committee, small group, or the board? Or maybe you have seen spiritual gifts for ministry or hospitality! Please share your nomination via email or on one of the cards in the pews. We are looking to expand the number of people involved in service and leadership. Please share your nominations!

  • Celebrating Our Graduates - Congratulations to those who are celebrating graduation from high school, college, or post-graduate studies! We would like to honor you in the worship service THIS SUNDAY 5/24. We also want to give a shout out to our rising 9th graders. To make sure no one is left out, if you are a graduate this year,or know a church member who is, please email Pastor Chip to confirm that we have your name listed.

  • “Refuse” Movie Screening - Nonprofit Uncommon Voices Collective, a Pasadena-based community of Christian artists, will screen the horror short film “Refuse” on Thursday, May 28th at 7:00pm in the Chapel. This will be more than just a movie night--the Collective anticipates a carefully held space: a 22-minute film, then a talkback with mental health professionals and the filmmaking team — designed to spark the kind of meaningful conversation that connects others dealing with similar challenges reconciling mental health with faith. The film deals with adult subject matter. We encourage any adults who are interested to attend!

  • A Night of Worship & Song - Join us for a night of worship and song on June 4 in the Chapel at 7:00pm.

  • Kids Ministries Summer Camp - Join us for camp from 9am-noon, June 8-12. Activities available from Pre-K to high school senior, come find the message in the chaos! You can find the registration link HERE.

  • Database Connection Campaign: We are updating our contact lists; if you’d like to receive communications from us, or if you’ve noticed any disruptions, message Rick at rick@fbcpasadena.com, or fill out the yellow card at the Connections Desk. We do not share your information.

  • From Kathy and the Front office: There is a small collection of nice water bottles in the church office, and a growing collection of pie plates and casserole dishes in the basement kitchen. Please stop by to pick up any of these items that belong to you during the week or on Sundays.

Lagniappe (lil’ something extra)

  • I (John Jay) read two articles from The Atlantic recently that really struck me. One was about a whale that got stranded on shore, and the efforts by locals to save it. I find it compelling how humans self-organize in a crisis, and how unintended consequences and limited understanding can turn the best intentions upside down. The other was about the effects of urbanization on the social isolation of young professions in China. What is happening in industrialized China is a hyper-speed version of what has happened in the West, which illuminates the fracturing of familial and geographic bonds so crucial for communal flourishing.

  • Go see the Arroyo goat herd at the Rose Bowl! Check out this news video to learn more.

  • Pastor Andrew says we should all go see his brother Caeden as Sir Andrew in “Twelfth Night.” Tickets here for the May 15th showing.

  • I (John Jay) am stepping off the grid for about 10 days in Zion National Park. I am thankful for the staff and leadership who make it possible for me to take a wilderness retreat like this. The last time I had such an immersive experience, I found a song that I carried with me while away. Watchhouse is one of my favorite musical groups, hailing from North Carolina and connected loosely to the church where both Riley and I served in Durham. Last year they released their album, Rituals, and their first single was the song below, “All Around You.” When I leave home, I am comforted by the feelings evoked in this song.

  • TWO ONE BOY KITTEN IS READY FOR A NEW HOME. If you are interested, email Kathy here to get the adoption process started. Here is a new video to help you imagine your life with a new little rascal.
