Liturgy for wherever you are
Seventh Sunday of Easter
May 29, 2022
welcome to WORSHIP
Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ.
HYMN sTUDies
We are in our new preaching series on hymns that have been a part of our faith tradition over the years and formed us theologically as we have sung them in worship. Each week you’ll find the lyrics to the hymn being highlighted here for continued reflection.
I Need Thee Every Hour
Annie Sherwood Hawks | Robert Lowry
I need Thee every hour
Most gracious Lord
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford
I need Thee O I need Thee
Every hour I need Thee
O bless me now my Savior
I come to Thee
I need Thee every hour
Stay Thou near by
Temptations lose their pow'r
When Thou art nigh
I need Thee every hour
In joy or pain
Come quickly and abide
Or life is vain
I need Thee every hour
Most Holy One
O make me Thine indeed
Thou blessed Son
Lyrics*
At Your Name
Phil Wickham | Tim Hughes
At Your name
The mountains shake and crumble
At Your name
The oceans roar and tumble
At Your name angels will bow
The earth will rejoice
Your people cry out
Lord of all the earth we shout Your name
Shout Your name
Filling up the skies with endless praise
Endless praise
Yahweh Yahweh
We love to shout Your name oh Lord
At Your name
The morning breaks in glory
At Your name
Creation sings Your story
At Your name angels will bow
The earth will rejoice
Your people cry out
There is no one like our God
We will praise You praise You
There's no one like our God
We will sing we will sing
Be Thou My Vision
Eleanor Henrietta Hull | Mary Elizabeth Byrne | Ascend the Hill
Be Thou my vision O Lord of my heart
Naught be all else to me save that Thou art
Thou my best thought by day or by night
Waking or sleeping Thy presence my light
Be Thou my wisdom and Thou my true word
I ever with Thee and Thou with me Lord
Thou my great Father and I Thy true child
Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one
Riches I heed not nor man's empty praise
Thou mine inheritance now and always
Thou and Thou only first in my heart
High King of heaven my treasure Thou art
O God be my everything, be my delight
Be Jesus my glory, my soul satisfied
O God be my everything, be my delight
Be Jesus my glory, my soul satisfied
High King of heaven my victory won
May I reach heaven’s joys O bright heaven’s Sun
Heart of my own heart whatever befall
Still be my vision O ruler of all
Lord, I Need You
Christy Nockels | Daniel Carson | Jesse Reeves | Kristian Stanfill | Matt Maher
Lord I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
And without You, I fall apart
You’re the one that guides my heart
Lord I need You, oh I need You
Ev’ry hour I need You
My one defense my righteousness
Oh God how I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
And where you are Lord I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
And when I cannot stand I’ll fall on You
Jesus You’re my hope and stay
Doxology
Thomas Ken

Praise God, all creatures here below;

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! John Jay led us in our call to worship. Lindsay invited us to celebrate our graduating high school seniors. Alex led us in communal prayer. Jason C. read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching to feed our spirits and returned at the end to offer up the benediction. Jessica H. invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Nat and Ian provided the offertory. Our other musicians this morning were Leslie, Astyn, Rick, Dann, Paul and the FBCP Choir. Chip helped us celebrate our Volunteer of the Month and reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Harriet worked her technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.
Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
