Liturgy for wherever you are

Sabbath I | Psalm 23

August 4, 2024

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. Lyrics*

You Carried Me

Will Reagan | United Pursuit

Holy, God of our faith
You are welcome in this place
You are welcome in this place

Come fill our hearts up
Come fill our hearts up
With Your presence
Sweet Lord, sustain us

You carry me
You carry me on the wings of love

The Joy of the Lord

Chris Llewellyn | Ed Cash | Gareth Gilkeson

Though the tears may fall my song will rise
My song will rise to You
Though my heart may fail my song will rise
My song will rise to You
While there’s breath in my lungs
I will praise You Lord

In the dead of night I’ll lift my eyes
I’ll lift my eyes to You
When the waters rise I’ll lift my eyes
I’ll lift my eyes to You
While there’s hope in this heart
I will praise You Lord

The joy of the Lord is my strength
The joy of the Lord is my strength
In the darkness I’ll dance
In the shadows I’ll sing
The joy of the Lord is my strength

When I cannot see You with my eyes
Let faith arise to You
When I cannot feel Your hand in mine
Let faith arise to You
God of mercy and love I will praise You Lord

Oh You shine with glory Lord of light
I feel alive with You
In Your presence now I come alive
I am alive with You
There is strength when I say
I will praise You Lord

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
The joy of the Lord is my strength

Be Still My Soul

Jane Laurie Borthwick | Jason Ingram | Kari Jobe | Kathrina Amalia von Schlegel

Be still my soul the Lord is on thy side
Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain
Leave to thy God to order and provide
In ev'ry change He faithful will remain
Be still my soul thy best thy heav'nly friend
Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end

Be still my soul thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past
Thy hope thy confidence let nothing shake
All now mysterious shall be bright at last
Be still my soul the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below

In You I rest in You I found my hope
In You I trust
You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
Be still my soul

Be still my soul the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord
When disappointment grief and fear are gone
Sorrow forgot Love's purest joys restored
Be still my soul when change and tears are past
All safe and blessed we shall meet at last

Doxology

Thomas Ken

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! John Jay welcomed us and invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Ken called us into worship. Chip led us in communal prayer and offered a blessing over blankets made by our Yarn Crafts Group led by Justine and Whitney. Helen read scripture. Lindsay led us in communion. John Jay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. Jessica invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Paul provided our offertory. Our other musicians this morning were Leslie, Warren, Jonathan, David T, Rick and Le Bienfaiteur. Lindsay reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Steph worked their technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
