Liturgy for wherever you are
Sabbath III | John 5:1-17
August 18, 2024
welcome to WORSHIP
Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
Anthony Johnson Showalter | Elisha Albright Hoffman
What a fellowship what a joy divine
Leaning on the everlasting arms
What a blessedness what a peace is mine
Leaning on the everlasting arms
Leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms
Leaning, leaning
Leaning on the everlasting arms
O how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way
Leaning on the everlasting arms
O how bright the path grows from day to day
Leaning on the everlasting arms
What have I to dread what have I to fear
Leaning on the everlasting arms
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near
Leaning on the everlasting arms
They’ll Know We Are Christians
Edward M. Willmington
We are one in the Spirit
We are one in the Lord
We are one in the Spirit
We are one in the Lord
And we pray that all unity
May one day be restored
And they’ll know we are Christians
By our love by our love
Yes they’ll know we are Christians
By our love
We will walk with each other
We will walk hand in hand
We will walk with each other
We will walk hand in hand
And together we’ll spread the news
That God is in our land
We will work with each other
We will work side by side
We will work with each other
We will work side by side
And we’ll guard each one’s dignity
And save each one’s pride
All praise to the Father
From whom all things come
And all praise to Christ Jesus
God’s only Son
And all praise to the Spirit
Who makes us one
Open Space
Kirby Kaple | Rob Kaple
Pull me in closer close to Your heart
May I be a pure reflection of all You are
Love that is patient love that is kind
And love that keeps no offenses or wrongs in mind
Make me like Jesus
Make me like Jesus
My heart is an open space
For You to come and have Your way
I'm open I'm open
You're faithful to find me right where I am
Though even in my wandering you call me friend
And mercy receives me and lifts me to my feet
And I'm caught up in the wonder and mystery
Of knowing Jesus
Of knowing Jesus
Do whatever You want to do
Say whatever You want to say
And move however You want to move
And change whatever You want to change
Are You Listening
United Pursuit
Are you listening because I can feel you all around me now.
Are you listening because I need you to hold me now.
You speak to the storm and the waves die down. I was lost in the water.
You speak to my heart. When I breathe I admit that I need you now.
I am listening, I can feel you all around me now
I am listening and I need you to hold me now
You speak to the storm and the waves die down. I was lost in the water.
You speak to my heart. When I breathe I admit that I need you.
I lift my eyes up to the mountains above.
Where does my help come from?
It comes from the one I love.
I am lost without you. When I breathe I admit that I need you.
I lift my eyes up to the mountains above.
Where does my help come from?
It comes from the one I love.
I am lost without you. When I breathe I admit that I need you now.

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Chip welcomed us and invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. John Jay and Natalee called us into worship. Buki led us in communal prayer. Allen read scripture. Lindsay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. Christopher invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were John Jay, Natalee, David T, Rick and Scott. Shawn and Brian awarded Foundation Scholarships. Sally and Steven reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Steph worked their technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.
Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
