Liturgy for wherever you are

Sabbath IV | Exodus 31:12-18, 35:1-3

August 25, 2024

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. In the River

Chris Quilala | Joshua Silverberg | Mark Alan Schoolmeesters | Ryan Williams

There is a river
Where goodness flows
There is a fountain
That drowns sorrow
There is an ocean
Deeper than fear
The tide is rising rising

There is a current
Stirring deep inside
It's overflowing
From the heart of God
The flood of heaven
Crashing over us
The tide is rising rising

Bursting bursting
Up from the ground we feel it now
Bursting bursting
Up from the ground we feel it now

We come alive in the river
We come alive in the river
We come alive in the river
We come alive in the river

Break open prison doors
Set all the captives free
Spring up a well spring up a well
Spring up a well in me
Nothing can stop this joy
We're dancing in the streets
Spring up a well spring up a well
Spring up a well in me

My Hope is Built on Nothing Less

Charlie Hall | Edward Mote | Kendall Combes | Trent Austin | William Batchelder Bradbury

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus' name

On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In ev’ry high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

God I Look to You

Ian McIntosh | Jenn Johnson

God I look to You
I won't be overwhelmed
Give me vision to see things like You do
God I look to You
You're where my help comes from
Give me wisdom You know just what to do

I will love You Lord my strength
I will love You Lord my shield
I will love You Lord my rock
Forever all my days I will love You God

Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Hallelujah our God reigns
Forever all our days hallelujah

Be Still My Soul

Jane Laurie Borthwick | Jason Ingram | Kari Jobe | Kathrina Amalia von Schlegel

Be still my soul thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past
Thy hope thy confidence let nothing shake
All now mysterious shall be bright at last
Be still my soul the waves and winds still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below

In You I rest in You I found my hope
In You I trust
You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
Be still my soul

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Chip welcomed us and he and Lindsay invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Lorenzo called us into worship. Lindsay honored our Volunteer of the Month. Saskia led us in communal prayer. Alex read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. John Jay invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were Leslie, Cindie, Dave, Judah, Jason C, Rick and Chris T. Chip blessed Ryan as he prepares to leave to college. John Jay and Chip reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Steph worked their technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
