Liturgy for wherever you are
Isaiah 40:27-31 | September 8, 2024
welcome to WORSHIP
Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. Lyrics*
He Is Faithful
Bryan Torwalt
I have heard a sound coming on the wind
Changing hearts and minds healing brokenness
I feel a generation breaking through despair
I hear a generation full of faith declare
And our song it will be
Out of the darkness we will rise and sing
He is faithful He is glorious
And He is Jesus and all my hope is in Him
He is freedom He is healing right now
He is hope and joy love and peace and life
I have seen a light like the break of dawn
Showing us the path, making all things new
I see a generation with resurrection life
We are a generation filled with the power of Christ
He has paid the highest price
He has proven His great love for us
We will praise Him with our lives
And proclaim our love for Him
What a Friend We Have in Jesus
Charles Crozat Converse | Joseph Medlicott Scriven
What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer
Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer
Have we trials and temptations
Is there trouble anywhere
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer
Precious Jesus Lord and friend
I give everything to You
Shelter Shepherd Savior King
I give everything to You
Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
Cornerstone
Edward Mote | Eric Liljero | Jonas Myrin | Reuben Morgan | William Batchelder Bradbury
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus' name
Christ alone, Cornerstone
Weak made strong in the Savior's love
Through the storm
He is Lord
Lord of all
When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne
Doxology
Thomas Ken
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Lindsay welcomed us and invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Chip called us into worship. Kris led us in communal prayer. Charlie read scripture. Ken provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. Susan invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Paul provided our offertory. Our other musicians this morning were Leslie, Jason E, Jonathan, Judah, Rick and Scott. Lindsay and Jessica H reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Steph worked their technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.
Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
