Liturgy for wherever you are

Sixteenth Sunday of Pentecost | Prayer: Grounding + Alignment

Matthew 14:19-27 | September 17th, 2023

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. My Hope is Built on Nothing Less

Charlie Hall | Edward Mote | Kendall Combes | Trent Austin | William Batchelder Bradbury

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus' name

On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

When darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In ev’ry high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay

When He shall come with trumpet sound
O may I then in Him be found
Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne

Open Space

Kirby Kaple | Rob Kaple

Pull me in closer close to Your heart
May I be a pure reflection of all You are
Love that is patient love that is kind
And love that keeps no offenses or wrongs in mind
Make me like Jesus
Make me like Jesus

My heart is an open space
For You to come and have Your way
I'm open I'm open

You're faithful to find me right where I am
Though even in my wandering you call me friend
And mercy receives me and lifts me to my feet
And I'm caught up in the wonder and mystery
Of knowing Jesus
Of knowing Jesus

Do whatever You want to do
Say whatever You want to say
And move however You want to move
And change whatever You want to change

Rescue

Jason Ingram | Lauren Daigle | Paul Mabury

You are not hidden
There's never been a moment
You were forgotten
You are not hopeless
Though you have been broken
Your innocence stolen

I hear you whisper underneath your breath
I hear your SOS your SOS

I will send out an army to find you
In the middle of the darkest night it's true
I will rescue you

There is no distance
That can not be covered
Over and over
You're not defenseless
I’ll be your shelter
I'll be your armor

I will never stop marching to reach you
In the middle of the hardest fight it's true
I will rescue you

I hear the whisper underneath your breath
I hear you whisper you have nothing left

Christ Be All Around Me

David Leonard | Jack Mooring | Leeland Mooring | Leslie Jordan

As I rise
Strength of God go before lift me up
As I wake
Eyes of God look upon be my sight

As I wait
Heart of God satisfy and sustain
As I hear
Voice of God lead me on be my guide
Be my guide

Above and below me
Before and behind me
In ev'ry eye that sees me
Christ be all around me
Above and below me
Before and behind me
In ev'ry eye that sees me
Christ be all around me yeah

As I go
Hand of God my defense by my side
As I rest
Breath of God fall upon bring me peace
Bring me peace

Oh oh Christ be all around me yeah
Oh oh Christ be all around me yeah

Your life Your death Your blood was shed
For ev'ry moment ev'ry moment

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! John Jay welcomed us, and he and Bennett invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Chip called us into worship. Lindsay led us in a communal grounding prayer practice. Ken read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. Jason E. invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were Leslie, Astyn, Bri, Jonathan, Tim and Chris B. Rich and Kris reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Dave worked his technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
