Liturgy for wherever you are

Twentieth Sunday of Pentecost

October 16, 2022

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ.

Lyrics*

Who You Say I Am

Ben Fielding | Reuben Morgan

Who am I that the highest King
Would welcome me
I was lost but He brought me in
Oh His love for me
Oh His love for me

Who the Son sets free
Oh is free indeed
I’m a child of God
Yes I am

Free at last
He has ransomed me
His grace runs deep
While I was a slave to sin
Jesus died for me
Yes He died for me

In my Father’s house
There’s a place for me
I’m a child of God
Yes I am

I am chosen not forsaken
I am who You say I am
You are for me not against me
I am who You say I am

Your Love Never Fails

Anthony Skinner | Chris McClarney

Nothing can separate
Even if I ran away
Your love never fails
I know I still make mistakes
But You have new mercies for me everyday
Your love never fails

You stay the same through the ages
Your love never changes
There may be pain in the night
But joy comes in the morning
And when the oceans rage
I don't have to be afraid
Because I know that You love me
Your love never fails

The wind is strong and the water's deep
But I'm not alone here in these open seas
Your love never fails
The chasm is far too wide
I never thought I'd reach the other side
Your love never fails

You make all things
Work together for my good
You make all things
Work together for my good

In the Garden

Charles Austin Miles

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses

And He walks with me
And He talks with me
And He tells me I am His own
And the joy we share as we tarry there
None other has ever known

He speaks and the sound of His voice
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! John Jay welcomed and invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Cynthia led us in our call to worship. Lindsay led us in communal prayer. Bunny read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching to feed our spirits and returned at the end to offer up the benediction. Brian helped us appreciate Tom and Rachel Harris before inviting us into a time of generosity through our offering. Nat provided the offertory. Our other musicians this morning were Astyn, Rick, and Dann. Chip reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Astyn oversaw the production while Harriet worked her technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
