Liturgy for wherever you are
All Saints Sunday | October 29th, 2023
Genesis 18:16-33
welcome to WORSHIP
Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. Leaning on the Everlasting Arms
Anthony Johnson Showalter | Elisha Albright Hoffman
What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Leaning, leaning,
Safe and secure from all alarms;
Leaning, leaning,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Oh, how sweet to walk in this pilgrim way,
Leaning on the everlasting arms;
Oh, how bright the path grows from day to day,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
What have I to dread, what have I to fear,
Leaning on the everlasting arms?
I have blessed peace with my Lord so near,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus
Louisa M. R. Stead, | William James Kirkpatrick
'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus
And to take Him at His word
Just to rest upon His promise
And to know thus saith the Lord
Jesus Jesus how I trust Him
How I've proved Him o'er and o'er
Jesus Jesus precious Jesus
O for grace to trust Him more
O how sweet to trust in Jesus
Just to trust His cleansing blood
And in simple faith to plunge me
'Neath the healing cleansing flood
Yes 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus
Just from sin and self to cease
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest and joy and peace
I’m so glad I learned to trust thee
Precious Jesus Savior friend
And I know that thou art with me
Wilt be with me to the end
Lead Us Back
Bobby Guilles | Brooks Ritter
Falling down upon our knees
Heavy from our common shame
We have sought security
Not the cross that bears your name
Fences guard our hearts and homes
Comfort sings a siren tune
Weʼre a valley of dry bones
Lead us back to life in you.
Lord we fall upon our knees
We have shunned the weak poor
Worshipped beauty courted kings
And the things their gold affords
Prayed for those weʼd like to know
Favor sings a siren tune
Weʼve become a talent show
Lead us back to life in you
Lord youʼve caused the blind to see
We have blinded them again
With our manmade laws and creeds
Eager ready to condemn
Now we plead before your throne
Power sings a siren tune
Weʼve been throwing heavy stones
Lead us back to life in you.
Weʼre a valley of dry bones
Lead us back to life in you.
Weʼve become a talent show
Lead us back to life in you
Weʼve been throwing heavy stones
Lead us back to life in you.

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Chip welcomed us and invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Tyler called us into worship. Judy, Vivian and Ian created a sacred space for our All Saints Remembrance as we honored the memory of loved ones lost. Grace led us in communal prayer. Bill read scripture. Lindsay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. John Jay invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Paul provided the offertory. Our other musicians this morning were John Jay, Natalee, Judah, Jason E, Chris B. and the FBCP Choir. Judah and Ruthie reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Kenny worked his technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.
Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
