Liturgy for wherever you are

First Sunday of Advent | Hope: Matthew 1:1-16

December 3rd, 2023

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. God With Us

Jason Ingram | Leslie Jordan

Oh You've come to bring peace to be Love
To be nearer to us
You've come to bring life to be Light
To shine brighter in us
Oh Emmanuel God with us

Our Deliverer You are Savior
In Your presence we find our strength
Over ev'rything our Redemption
God with us
You are God with us

Oh You've come to be Hope to this world
For Your honor and name
And You've come to take sin to bear shame
And to conquer the grave
Oh Emmanuel God with us

You are here
You are holy
We are standing in Your glory (Lord)

Come Thou Long Expected Jesus

Charles Wesley | Rowland Hugh Prichard | Brenton Brown | Glenn Robertson

Come Thou long expected Jesus
Born to set Thy people free
From our fears and sins release us
Let us find our rest in Thee
Israel's strength and consolation
Hope of all the earth Thou art
Dear desire of every nation
Joy of every longing heart

Come, Lord Jesus, come
Come, Lord Jesus, come

Born Thy people to deliver
Born a child and yet a King
Born to reign in us forever
Now Thy gracious Kingdom bring
By Thine own eternal Spirit
Rule in all our hearts alone
By Thine all sufficient merit
Raise us to Thy glorious throne

O Come All Ye Faithful

John Francis Wade | C. Frederick Oakeley | Michael Guy Chislett | Matt Crocker | Ben Tan | Karina Wykes

O come all ye faithful
Joyful and triumphant
O come ye O come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of angels

O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
O come let us adore Him
Christ the Lord

Sing choirs of angels
Sing in exultation
Sing all ye citizens of heaven above
Glory to God
Glory in the highest

Hallelujah
Hallelujah
O the King has come

Yes Lord we greet Thee
Born this happy morning
Jesus to Thee be the glory giv'n
Word of the Father now in flesh appearing

Doxology

Thomas Ken

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God above, ye heav'nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Lindsay welcomed us, and she and Sally invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Keren and William lit our first advent candle and led us in a litany of Hope. Chip led us in communal prayer. Stephen S read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching, led us in communion and offered up the benediction. Charles invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Paul and Nat provided the offertory. Our other musicians this morning were Leslie, Warren, Cindie, Dave, Sally, Jason E, Chris B and the FBCP Choir. John Jay reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Kenny worked his technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
