Liturgy for wherever you are

Fourth Sunday of Advent

December 18, 2022

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Charles Wesley | Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy

Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic hosts proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

Christ by highest heav’n adored
Christ the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of the Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased with us in flesh to dwell
Jesus our Emmanuel
Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace
Hail the Sun of Righteousness
Light and life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that we no more may die
Born to raise each child of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

The First Noel

Traditional English Carol

The first Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep

Noel Noel Noel Noel
Born is the King of Israel

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night

Now let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heavenly Lord
With shepherds kings and angels come
And worship Christ the holy one

God With Us

Jason Ingram | Leslie Jordan

Oh You've come to bring peace to be Love
To be nearer to us
You've come to bring life to be Light
To shine brighter in us
Oh Emmanuel God with us

Our Deliverer You are Savior
In Your presence we find our strength
Over ev'rything our Redemption
God with us
You are God with us

Oh You've come to be Hope to this world
For Your honor and name
And You've come to take sin to bear shame
And to conquer the grave
Oh Emmanuel God with us

You are here
You are holy
We are standing in Your glory (Lord)

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Chip welcomed and invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Magda, Nolan, and their family lit our Advent candle of Love and read our litany. Galvin led us in communal prayer. Kevin read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching, honored our Volunteer of the Month, and offered up the benediction. Astyn invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Joanna provided the offertory. Our other musicians this morning were Astyn, Chris B, Jason E and Natalie. Chip reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Harriet worked her technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
