Liturgy for wherever you are

Fourth Sunday of Advent | Love | Luke 2:8-20

December 24th, 2023

welcome to WORSHIP

Liturgy is an ancient word for worship that is usually translated as “the work of the people.” You’ll hear the voices of our pastoral staff and our community each week, and we are so grateful that this is the work we get to do together. We prayerfully plan our worship services trusting that the Spirit will use each element to shape us and our desires as we pursue the path of Christ. O Come Let Us Adore Him

C. Frederick Oakeley | John Francis Wade

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant;
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem!
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels!

O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ, the Lord

O come, all ye faithful
Come, let us adore Him.
O come, all ye faithful
Come, let us adore Him!

Sing, choirs of angels; sing in exultation;
Sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above!
Glory to God, glory in the highest!

O sing, hallelujah! He alone is worthy!
O sing, hallelujah! He alone is worthy!

Yes, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus to Thee be all glory giv’n:
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing

Joy to the World

George Frideric Handel | Isaac Watts

Joy to the world the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King
Let ev'ry heart prepare Him room
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and nature sing
And heav'n and heav'n and nature sing

Joy to the earth the Savior reigns
Let us our songs employ
While fields and floods
Rocks hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat repeat the sounding joy

No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
Far as the curse is found
Far as far as the curse is found

He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders wonders of His love

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Todd Fields | Reid Greven

Said the night wind to the little lamb
Do you see what I see
Way up in the sky little lamb
Do you see what I see

A star, a star
Dancing in the night
With a tail as big as a kite
With a tail as big as a kite

Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear
Ringing through the sky shepherd boy
Do you hear what I hear

A song, a song
High above the trees
With a voice as big as the sea
With a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king
Do you know what I know
In your palace wall mighty king
Do you know what I know

A child, a child
Shivers in the cold
Let us bring him silver and gold
Let us bring him silver and gold

Said the king to the people everywhere
Listen to what I say
Pray for peace people everywhere
Listen to what I say

The child, the child
Sleeping in the night
He will bring us goodness and light
He will bring us goodness and light

What a wonderful group of friends we had for this week’s service! Lindsay welcomed us invited us into a communal practice of gratitude. Kevin and Bill lit a candle and led us in a litany of Love. Leslie and Bill recognized our Volunteer of the Month. Jeannette led us in communal prayer. John S read scripture. John Jay provided us with a teaching and offered up the benediction. Tim invited us into a time of generosity through our offering. Our musicians this morning were Leslie, John Jay, Bri, Judah, Rick and Scott. John Jay and Chip reminded us of the different ways we are invited to participate in communal life together. Leslie oversaw the production while Kenny worked his technical magic to mix this special collaborative worship experience.

Much love from your church family at FBC Pasadena.
