choral singing for advent
Hi Friends,
Thank you for your participation in our Advent album! We are thankful for the creative and safe ways we have been able to sing together this year, so as we prepare to offer our gifts of song for Advent, we are eager to partner with you in this project. Everything you need to participate in our scattered choir is here on this page.
As you prepare to record, we want to encourage you to carry joy and gratitude into your singing. We want our songs to be a reflection of hope, and your intention and energy reflects in your sung expression. Most importantly, have fun with the process! We have every reason to celebrate for God is Emmanuel: with us, for us, always.
Thank you for sharing your voice in this way. These scattered choirs are such a gift in this time.

Steps to Record
Listen to the audio for your part on this page and practice.
Practice again. 😉
Find two audio devices to use for recording. We recommend you use your computer as a listening device, and your smartphone as a recording device.
On your computer/listening device, plug in headphones and click on the backing track on this page.
Practice again. 😉😬
Find a quiet indoor space to record.
Open a voice memo app on your phone. On iPhones, this is called Voice Memos. On Android, there are lots of simple voice recording apps you can use.
Now you are ready to record. You should have earphones plugged into a computer with the backing track ready to start. You should have a voice memo app open and ready to record on your phone. (See picture below!)
Start the recording app on your phone, then start the backing track (on your computer) to hear in your earphones.
At the beginning of the recording you’ll hear a countdown to a single clap. Please clap! This is how we will line up your audio with the rest of the recordings, and it’s absolutely critical! Then sing when it’s your part. By now with all of the practice, you should know just where to sing with the track! 😃
When you are finished recording your vocals, don’t stop it right away. Allow a few seconds after singing to turn off the recording. You don’t have to keep recording to the end of the helper track. Just a few seconds after your vocals are done.
Listen to your beautiful recording, being extra kind to yourself about the quality. Almost no one likes the way their voice sounds when recorded. Trust that we will bring all of your voices together in a way that honors your singing. Once you confirm that the recording worked, move to the next step…
Submit your recordings to Dropbox using the button below.
Celebrate!!! 🎉
THE NIGHT THAT CHRIST WAS BORN
Listen to the angels
Rejoicing e'er so sweetly
Receiving heaven's glory
The night that Christ was born
Can't you see the people
Coming from every nation
Pleading for salvation
The night that Christ was born
Glory, glory, glory!
Hallelujah
Crying, “Holy, holy!”
The night that Christ was born
Oh such a wonderful savior
To be born in a manger
So that I can share His favor
And my heart be made anew.
Listen to the trumpets
Shouting through the darkness
Crying 'holy, holy'
The night that Christ was born
Oh such a wonderful savior
To be born in a manger
So that I can share His favor
And my heart be made anew.
Listen to the trumpets
Shouting through the darkness
Crying 'holy, holy'
The night that Christ was born
Glory, glory, glory!
Hallelujah
Crying, “Holy, holy!”
The night that Christ was born
Oh such a wonderful savior
To be born in a manger
So that I can share His favor
And my heart be made anew.
Listen to the trumpets
Shouting through the darkness
Now behold the Savior
The night that Christ was born
The night that Christ was born
The night that Christ was born
The night that Christ was born
The holly and the ivy
