Choir Director | part time
Purpose of Position
The Choir Director is part of the Pastoral Leadership Team, charged with leading the Choral ministries of FBC Pasadena, as well as special services of worship through the year. The Choir Director also serves as a core part of the liturgical and logistical office functions, maintaining alignment in worship and the larger church vision.
Requirements
Ideal candidates would have a degree in music, music education, or related field.
Ability to read music, distinguish and assign vocal parts, and work with musicians.
Minimum of 2-3 years of experience directing a choir.
Ability to offer spiritual care to choir members when needed.
Choir Duties and Responsibilities
Recruit and onboard new choir members.
Plan and lead weekly choir rehearsals.
Select a seasonal repertoire of music and anthems for the choir, in collaboration with the Associate Pastor of Liturgy.
Lead choir in regular participation on Sunday mornings for worship.
Give pastoral care to the choir members.
Maintain all needed materials for choir, including but not limited to anthem sheet music, folders, and the physical spaces of the practice room and choir loft.
Special Services Duties and Responsibilities
Plan and execute occasional worship services at FBC Pasadena. This includes but is not limited to the Candlelight Carol service, Christmas Eve, Lenten and Holy Week services.
Coordinate with other worship leaders and musicians for such services.
Evaluate occasional services and recommend changes to support the mission of FBC Pasadena.
Office Duties and Responsibilities
Participate in occasional worship planning and staff meetings.
Communicate with the office staff for all overlapping projects and duties.
Supervisory and Staff Relations
Responsible to the Associate Pastor of Liturgy as immediate supervisor and to the Board of Deacons as representatives of the church body.
Responsible for cooperating with other ministerial staff in areas of shared ministry to the church.
Responsible for collegial relationships with other staff and with lay leaders.
Annual Reviews
The Associate Pastor of Liturgy will evaluate the job performance of the Choir Director with input from relevant groups within the church. The Associate Pastor of Liturgy will provide a formal written evaluation to the Lead Pastor after it has been discussed with the Choir Director.
