Weekly Updates 10.11.2024

Saturday

  • Our Holy Walkamolies Hiking Group invites you to hike at Brown Mountain Dam tomorrow morning, Saturday, October 12th. Meet at 9am at the trailhead for this beautiful Altadena hike. Text “hike” to 626.727.9498 or click here to learn more and RSVP.

Sunday

  • Rene’s class “Spiritual Values in Literature: Quarantine” continues this week in Room 214, and our “History in the Gospel” Sunday School class continues with Jenn Wolfe in the Parlor. Both Sunday School classes begin at 9am and are open to everyone.

  • Join us at 10:30am for worship in the sanctuary! Our scripture this week is Philippians 1:19-26. The nursery will be open as usual for our toddlers and babies. Our kids five years old and up can join us for the first part of worship and then will be dismissed to their classrooms with their leaders. They can sit with their parents or join us in the front rows at the start of service. Our youth are invited to join us for our regular lunch and fellowship after service. The Prayer team will be available at the front of the sanctuary toward the end of the service to pray with those who would like to receive prayer.

  • This Sunday we invite you to consider giving beyond your contributions to FBCP by supporting a special offering called One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS). This offering will help with flood relief in Thailand and you can learn more about their various needs from our global servant Kit Ripley in her video here. When you give to OGHS, your funds support disaster relief, development projects, and refugee ministries of the American Baptist Churches and its partners. Thank you for considering how you might partner with this important work and please choose “OGHS Thailand Flood Relief” from the dropdown menu on our giving page.

  • A reminder to our De-Escalation Team that Pastor John Jay will provide a training after worship this Sunday, October 13th. Text “calm” to 626.727.9498 or email the office if you would like to join this team.

  • Our Yarn Craft Group welcomes any crafty knitters or crocheters (or any type of crafting) to work on your projects after worship this Sunday, October 13th, in the Parlor. Bring snacks to share (optional) and a water bottle. Email Whitney or Justine if you have any questions.

  • The Friends In Deed food pantry item this week is granola bars and other single-serve items.

A Musical Invitation

  • Preparations for Advent are underway, and you are invited to participate! We are assembling an Advent Handbell Choir for the Candlelight Carol Service. We had eight folks sign up last week, and we are looking for 3-4 more. It will involve weekly rehearsals beginning Monday, October 28th, at 7pm in the Sanctuary, a dress rehearsal on December 7th, and the performance on December 8th. You do not need prior handbell experience to participate, though some basic music knowledge will be helpful. Email Pastor Leslie or text “bells” to 626.727.9498 to sign up!

Coming Up

  • Our Oaxaca Team leaves for Mexico a week from today, and they appreciate your prayers for safe travels and meaningful relationships with residents in the villages where they will serve alongside doctors to provide medical care.

  • The youth invite you to an all-church Game Night next Saturday, October 19th, from 5:00-7:30pm! They are planning a variety of games for a variety of ages, and Pastor Lindsay will make sure you are well fed, too! Text “game” to 626.727.9498 to join in the fun!

  • On October 27th, we will celebrate All Saints Day by pausing to remember those in or connected to our community who have died in the past year (since October 29, 2023) by saying their names out loud. It is our tradition to hold our loss and grief together as the body of Christ in this sacred practice. Please click below to input their name.

  • Everyone is invited to our next round of Community Dinners on Friday, November 1st. Email Pastor Chip or text “dinner” to 626.727.9498 if you would like to participate by either attending or hosting, and more details will follow. This is a wonderful time to share a meal, and it is a great way to get to know other church members better. It is one of our favorite events in homes around the city, so we hope you can participate!

  • Our next Coffee + Conversation with Pastor John Jay is set for Sunday, November 3rd, at 9am in the Parlor. This is a great time for any of you to chat with our lead pastor about any questions you may have, or share with him how you found FBCP and meet other people also newer to the community. Coffee and pastries will be served and you can enter through the gates on Marengo Ave. Text “coffee” to 626.727.9498 to RSVP. Email the office if you are attending and will need childcare.

  • Our Passive-Aggressive Pickleball group will meet on Sunday, November 3rd, at 7pm in the Gym off Union St. Text “pickle” to 626.727.9498 to join the text updates for this group. Email Tim with questions. We have paddles and balls available; bring your parking ticket for validation and a bottle of water.

FBCP Directory

  • We are updating our Mailing Directory and would like to invite you to update your physical addresses with us. This helps us when it comes to financial statements, birthday cards or church-wide updates we send out once or twice per year. If you are newer to FBCP or would like to update your info, please click here. Thanks!
