Weekly Updates 10.04.2024

Sunday

  • Rene’s class “Spiritual Values in Literature: Quarantine” begins this week in Room 214! Our “History in the Gospel” Sunday School class continues with Jenn Wolfe in the Parlor. Walk into either class at 9am before worship.

  • Join us for worship in the sanctuary at 10:30am as we partake in communion together (note: crackers are gluten free)! Our scripture this week is Philippians 1:12-18. The nursery will be open as usual for our toddlers and babies. Please note that because this will be the first Sunday of the month, our kids five years old and up will join us in the sanctuary for service. Our youth are invited to join us for our regular lunch and fellowship after service. The Prayer team will be available at the front of the sanctuary toward the end of the service to pray with those who would like to receive prayer.

  • We invite everyone to celebrate the official ordination of Pastor Lindsay Dorman at a special service this Sunday, October 6th, at 3pm in the Sanctuary. This extra step of ministerial accomplishment is indeed an event to be celebrated and acknowledged together as a community. Thank you to the youth for baking cookies to enjoy after the service! We hope you can all join us.

  • The Friends In Deed food pantry item this week is baking supplies.

Coming Up

  • Thanks to several folks who signed up to be a part of our De-Escalation Team. Pastor John Jay will provide a training after worship on Sunday, October 13th. Text “calm” to 626.727.9498 if you haven’t signed up or email the office with any questions.

  • Our Yarn Craft Group welcomes any crafty knitters or crocheters (or any type of crafting) to work on your projects after worship on Sunday, October 13th, in the Parlor. Bring snacks to share (optional) and a water bottle. Email Whitney or Justine if you have any questions.

  • Our Passive-Aggressive Pickleball group will meet next on Sunday, October 13th, at 7pm in the Gym off Union St. Text “pickle” to 626.727.9498 to join the text updates for this group. Email Tim with questions. We have paddles and balls available; bring your parking ticket for validation and a bottle of water.

  • Our Oaxaca Team would like to thank the church for your support in their Bake Sales—together you raised $1600 for their trip! The team heads out to Oaxaca, Mexico, from October 18th-26th, and they appreciate your prayers for safe travels and meaningful relationships with residents in the villages where they will serve alongside doctors to provide medical care.

  • The youth invite you to Game Night fun from 5:00-7:30pm on Saturday, October 19th! They are planning a variety of games for a variety of ages, and Pastor Lindsay will make sure you are well fed, too! Text “game” to 626.727.9498 to join in the fun!

  • Pastor Chip is looking ahead for hosts for our next Community Dinners on Friday, November 1st. If hosting is your cup of tea, please email him and let him know. Thank you for generously considering sharing your table—these are always a fun time!

  • Newer friends to FBCP, you are invited to join Pastor John Jay for Coffee + Conversation at 9am on Sunday, November 3rd, in his office. Our lead pastor loves these smaller opportunities to get to know folks, hear your stories, and help you get connected with others in the church. Text “coffee” to 626.727.9498 to RSVP.

A Musical Invitation

  • Preparations for Advent are underway, and you are invited to participate! We are assembling an Advent Handbell Choir for the Candlelight Carol Service. We are looking for 8-11 people to participate. It will involve weekly rehearsals beginning Monday, October 28th, at 7pm in the Sanctuary, a dress rehearsal on December 7th, and the performance on December 8th. You do not need prior handbell experience to participate, though some basic music knowledge will be helpful. Email Pastor Leslie or text “bells” to 626.727.9498 to sign up!

FBCP Directory

  • We are updating our Mailing Directory and would like to invite you to update your physical addresses with us. This helps us when it comes to financial statements, birthday cards (sent by the amazing Bunny Boctor), or church-wide updates we send out once or twice per year. If you have not moved in the last few years and you received our recent mid-year update, no need to update things. If you did not receive a recent letter and you want to make sure we have your info, please click here. Thanks!
