Weekly Updates 08.23.2024

Tomorrow

  • Hikers, we hope you enjoy El Prieto Loop tomorrow morning, located at 4349 El Prieto Rd, Altadena. Our Holy Walkamolies group will be meeting at 8:30am at the entrance, or 8am at the front of the church if you need a ride. Nicole O asks that you let her know here if you plan to attend and/or need a ride. Stay hydrated!

Sunday

  • Folks interested in volunteering in our children’s classrooms, join Pastors Lindsay and Mary for a Family Ministry Training this Sunday, August 25, at 9am in the nursery. Email Pastors Lindsay and Mary to let them know of your interest.

  • Join us at 10:30am for worship in the sanctuary! The nursery will be open as usual for our toddlers and babies. Our kids five years old and up can join us for the first part of worship and then will be dismissed to their classrooms with their leaders. They can sit with their parents or join us in the front rows at the start of service. Our youth are invited to join us for our regular lunch and fellowship after service. The Prayer team will be available at the front of the sanctuary toward the end of the service to pray with those who would like to receive prayer.

  • Our Basics Class will meet after worship this Sunday, August 25th, at 12:30pm in the Southside Room. This lunch is for those who are interested in learning about First Baptist Pasadena’s history and the meaning behind some of our practices like baptism, communion and membership, as well as our guiding principles. Lunch will be provided. Text “basics” to 626.727.9498 to RSVP. Email Pastor Chip for more details.

  • Our Passive-Aggressive Pickleball group meets again this Sunday, August 25th, at 7pm in the gym off Union St. Text “pickle” to 626.727.9498 to join the text updates for this group. Email Tim with questions. We have paddles and balls available; bring your parking ticket for validation, and a bottle of water.

  • The Friends In Deed food pantry item this week is fruit & vegetable juice.

Sunday School is Back!

  • Summer break is winding down, and we are excited to jump into some new learning topics. Beginning September 8th from 9-10am on Sundays for eight weeks, we will have two Fall Sunday School class options: Rene Scheys will teach Spiritual Values in Literature: Quarantine (1998) by Jim Crace, and Jennifer Wolfe will teach History in the Gospels. Both are professor-level teachers, and you won’t want to miss soaking in their expertise. Text “school” to 626.727.9498 or click here to register.

Coming Up

  • Do you love to sing? The FBCP  Choir Half-Day Retreat is around the corner on Labor Day weekend! On  Saturday, August 31st, we will gather at Atherton at 9am for a time of reflection and rehearsal. We will have coffee and snacks in the morning and will conclude our time together with lunch. If you’re interested, please text “choir” to 626.727.9498 or click here to access the registration link. The choir will resume singing in worship service on Sunday, September 1st, and resume Wednesday rehearsals starting September 4th at 7pm.

  • Our FBCPride Group is regrouping after summer break. Enjoy a potluck lunch after worship on Sunday, September 1st, in the Southside Room. If you’re newer and would like to check out the group, please do! The LGBTQ+ community, parents and allies 16+ are welcome. Text “pride” to 626.727.9498 to let us know you’re coming. Feel free to bring a friend. Last year we met in the evenings; however, this year we will meet at lunchtime after worship. More details to come at the lunch!

  • Look out for amazing treats for sale at our Oaxaca Bake Sale on Sundays September 8th and 22nd (you’ll be here early for Sunday School anyway!). Our Oaxaca Missions Team will be selling goodies to raise money for their trip to Mexico this Fall. Let us know if you would like to bake for their sale. You’ll find treats in the courtyard before worship and the lobby afterwards (if there’s some left)!

  • Our Yarn Craft Group welcomes any crafty knitters or crocheters to join the biweekly fun in the Parlor after worship on Sunday, September 8th and in the Southside Room on September 29th. Bring snacks to share (optional) and a water bottle. Email Whitney or Justine if you have any questions.

  • Our next monthly Grief Group meets on Sunday, September 22nd, at 9am in the 2nd Floor Prayer Chapel (one of our favorite spaces in the whole church!). It is a space for anyone experiencing grief or loss to be with others in a similar season. Reach out to Jon Rinkus if you are interested in joining this group. Jon is a trained Hospital Chaplain through Fuller and provides a rich space for folks to process grief.

Small Groups

  • We are excited to launch small groups mid-September and we have heard interest from quite a few folks. You can text “small” to 626.727.9498 if you’d like to join the fun, and we will follow up with more information. These groups will create opportunities for growth and formation in the context of an intimate circle of belonging in homes around the city. Email Pastor Lindsay with questions.
