Weekly Updates 09.27.2024

Tomorrow

  • Join us Saturday, September 28th, at 9am for our quarterly Men’s Breakfast in the Park off Union St. You won’t want to miss the meal or the time of fellowship together. Text “bacon” to 626.727.9498 to RSVP, or just show up and enjoy the time!

  • Tomorrow’s Holy Walkamolies event has been canceled. Stay tuned for their next hike on Saturday, October 12th.

Sunday

  • Our “History in the Gospel” Sunday School class runs Sunday mornings now thru October 27th at 9am in the Parlor. Feel free to join anytime! Also, don’t forget, starting on October 6th is Rene’s class “Spiritual Values in Literature: Quarantine.” Text “Rene” to 626.727.9498 to sign up!

  • Join us at 10:30am for worship in the sanctuary! Our scripture this week is Philippians 1:7-11. The nursery will be open as usual for our toddlers and babies. Our kids five years old and up can join us for the first part of worship and then will be dismissed to their classrooms with their leaders. They can sit with their parents or join us in the front rows at the start of service. Our youth are invited to join us for our regular lunch and fellowship after service. The Prayer team will be available at the front of the sanctuary toward the end of the service to pray with those who would like to receive prayer.

  • Join us after worship in the Parlor for thirty minutes of prayer for our American Baptist global servants. If you are interested in joining with this group, please email Jeannette or Judy. This will enable us to send you an email about the specific matters for which we will be praying.

  • Our Yarn Craft Group welcomes any crafty knitters or crocheters to join in crafting fun after worship this Sunday, September 29th, in the Southside Room. Bring snacks to share (optional) and a water bottle. Email Whitney or Justine if you have any questions.

  • The Friends In Deed food pantry item this week is cereal.

Coming Up

  • Folks ages 55+ are invited to join us this coming Wednesday, October 2nd, at 12:30pm for a potluck lunch in Room 214. Come prepared to share what’s been happening in your life, and warm up your vocal cords for some community singing with our amazing pianist Paul following lunch. It’s going to be a lively time. Email Pastor Chip with any questions.

  • We invite everyone to celebrate the official ordination of Pastor Lindsay Dorman at a special service on Sunday, October 6th, at 3pm in the Sanctuary. This extra step of ministerial accomplishment is indeed an event to be celebrated and acknowledged together as a community. We hope you all can join us.

  • Our Passive-Aggressive Pickleball group will meet next on Sunday, October 13th, at 7pm in the Gym off Union St. Text “pickle” to 626.727.9498 to join the text updates for this group. Email Tim with questions. We have paddles and balls available; bring your parking ticket for validation and a bottle of water.

A Musical Invitation

  • Preparations for Advent are underway, and you are invited to participate! We are assembling an Advent Handbell Choir for the Candlelight Carol Service. We are looking for 8-11 people to participate. It will involve weekly rehearsals beginning Monday, October 28th, at 7pm in the Sanctuary, a dress rehearsal on December 7th, and the performance on December 8th. You do not need prior handbell experience to participate, though some basic music knowledge will be helpful. Email Pastor Leslie to sign up.

FBCP Directory

  • We are updating our Mailing Directory and would like to invite you to update your physical addresses with us. This helps us when it comes to financial statements, birthday cards (sent by the amazing Bunny Boctor), or church-wide updates we send out once or twice per year. If you have not moved in the last few years and you received our recent mid-year update, no need to update things. If you did not receive a recent letter and you want to make sure we have your info, please click here. Thanks!

Supporting Others Through Grief

  • Our very own Tyler Brewington-Mathis recently graduated from Fuller and published this article on standing with others through grief. Thank you, Tyler, for reminding us of Emmanuel God with us and the gift of bearing with others through suffering.
