Weekly Updates 05.27.2022

Friends at FBCP,

Here are the updates and announcements you need for the week.

Parent Night Out Postponed

Parent Night Out has been postponed due to potential exposure to Covid with some of our families and adult leaders. Stay tuned for information about a new date.

This Sunday

  • Our new teaching focus is called HYMN STUDIES. As we are able, we will be making listening tracks to go along with each week. Listen to the tracks we have so far by clicking the button above (these hymn tracks will also be our homepage for a while)!

  • Join us for worship in the sanctuary at 10:30 am as we celebrate our graduating high school seniors! The nursery will be open as usual for our toddlers and babies. Our kids five years old and up can join us for the first part of worship and then will be dismissed to their classrooms with their leaders. They can sit with their parents or join us in the front rows at the start of service. Our youth are invited to join us for worship and then stay for our regular youth gathering and lunch. Prayer ministers will be available at the front of the sanctuary toward the end of the service to pray with those who would like to receive prayer.

  • The Friends In Deed Food Pantry item for this Sunday is any non-perishable food item of your choice.

Future Happenings & Other News

  • As we close out AAPI Heritage month, we want to highlight Ken Fong’s podcast as an amazing resource for our community. Not only is Ken a great conversationalist, but his combination of theological thinking and deep curiosity makes him an excellent host. His recent episode features Attorney Dale Minami, covering issues of WWII internment, redress and reparations, and the ways that movements for justice develop and thrive. Check it out here. We are blessed that Ken is part of our church community and are better for his leadership as a lifelong learner.

  • Come out and support our very own Astyn Turrentine who is having her own show Wednesday, June 1st, at The Goldfish (5043 York Blvd) in Highland Park to promote and raise funds for her album currently being recorded. Doors open at 6 pm. You must be at least 21 years of age to attend and have proof of vaccination for entry. You can reserve a ticket here. It’s time for potluck again on Sunday, June 12th! We’d like to ask based on your last name, if you’re able, to bring a dessert (A-G), a main dish (H-Q), or a side/salad (R-Z) of about 10 servings to share with your friends here. Potlucks are a special time here at FBCP, so we hope you’ll join us that day for some fantastic food and fellowship.

  • We need your help with potluck on Sunday, June 12th! If you can spare an hour to help us set up before or clean up after the potluck, we’re looking for you. This is a great one-time, low commitment way to serve if you’ve been wondering how you could help out here at FBCP. To sign up, email Chip or sign up at the Connections desk on Sunday.

  • We know that God meets us where we are, but sometimes it can be hard to create space to hear. Join us at our upcoming Prayer Retreat for a day of prayer, community and connection on June 18th from 9 am - 5 pm. The retreat will be led by Natalee Ellis and Gretchen Saalbach, who will lead you through guided prayer exercises and allow time to process how God is speaking to you personally. Lunch will be provided. A small fee of $10 will secure your spot, and you can register here. Email Pastor Chip for any questions.

  • Thank you for your support given to relief work in Ukraine. American Baptist global servants Jon and Amanda Good are working directly with Ukrainian refugees and have a video update to share that you can watch here.

  • The FBCP Foundation is a separate entity established in 1958 by members committed to contributing financially to the church in the present and future years. Each year the Foundation has some funds set aside to disburse to FBCP members for post-secondary educational scholarships. Members interested in applying for 2022-2023 academic year can apply here. Applications are due Monday, June 27, 2022.

Grace and peace to you as we head into the weekend. We can’t wait to worship with you in our sanctuary on Sunday!

Less without you,

The FBCP Community
