Weekly Updates 12.08.2023

Youth Party Tonight

  • We wish the youth group a very merry Christmas as they celebrate early tonight with food, games and lots of laughter. Email Pastor Lindsay with any questions.

Tomorrow

  • The FBCPride movie night starts tomorrow at 6pm at the Chen Home. Our RSVP list is full at this time, but we hope to have another movie night in the coming months. Email Kevin and Sally for more information.

Sunday

  • Tyler Brewington-Mathis will continue teaching our Advent Sunday School class Sunday, December 10, at 9am in the Parlor. This curriculum, which Pastor John Jay wrote and Pastor Lindsay adapted for home practices, features the Advent story that captures the ordinary miracle of the incarnation: our ancestors and family lineage, the cultural and political landscape, changing bodies (pregnancy and birth), and finally the companions we need for the ordinary days of our lives. There’s no need to sign up ahead of time for this series—just come on in. Email Pastor Lindsay if you plan to attend and need childcare. Click here to check out last week’s lesson. Click here to download the second week’s lesson.

  • We invite you to help with the cookie count for the reception after our carol service Sunday night. If you’re able, please drop off 1-2 dozen cookies at the Hospitality Desk before service, and we will prepare platters for the evening. Thank you for your generosity!

  • This Sunday is the last day to drop off gifts for the Friends In Deed’s annual Christmas for the Kids Gift Drive. Thank you to everyone who helped us provide gifts to 80 kids this Christmas! Make sure the items include the child's name and family number, and you can drop them at the Connections Desk before worship. Email Shawn with any questions.

  • Join us at 10:30am for worship in the Sanctuary as we celebrate the second week of Advent! The nursery will be open as usual for our toddlers and babies. Our kids five years old and up can join us for the first part of worship and then will be dismissed to their classrooms with their leaders. They can sit with their parents or join us in the front rows at the start of service. Our youth are invited to join us for our regular lunch and fellowship after service. The Prayer team will be available at the front of the sanctuary toward the end of the service to pray with those who would like to receive prayer.

  • Join us for our 80th Annual Candlelight Carol Service this Sunday, December 10th, at 6pm in the Sanctuary! Copy & paste this link as an invitation to friends: https://fbcpasadena.com/invitation! Help us celebrate the Christmas season as we sing together and are reminded of hope made real in the birth of Jesus. You won’t want to miss this celebration including our FBCP Choir, handbells, kids and youth nativity, men’s quartet, harp music and more! Childcare for toddlers and infants (4 years and under) will be provided, and there will be a cookie reception after the service. If you can’t make it but want to listen from home, we are livestreaming the service this year, and you can tune in at 6pm.

  • Our Listen page audio this week is an office recording from John Jay to preview a lesser known Christmas lullaby ahead of the Candlelight Carol Service.

  • The Friends In Deed Food Pantry item for this Sunday is fruit and vegetable juice.

Next Week

  • Pastor John Jay invites any newer folks to Coffee + Conversation on Sunday, December 17th, at 9am in his office! Get to know a smaller group of people also new to FBCP and have our lead pastor there to answer any questions you may have. Text “coffee” to 626.727.9498 to RSVP. Enter his office through the wooden doors on Holly St.

  • Stay tuned for Winter Sunday School class sign-ups! We will have more information beginning next Sunday, and classes will run for six weeks from January 7 through February 11, 2024.

Christmas Eve

  • Celebrate with us during our usual morning worship at 10:30am, and then return for our annual Christmas Eve service on Sunday, December 24th, at 6pm in the Chapel. This special intimate service ends with singing by candlelight, and we hope you can join us.
