Weekly Updates 08.16.2024

Sunday

  • Join us at 10:30am for worship in the sanctuary! The nursery will be open as usual for our toddlers and babies. Our kids five years old and up can join us for the first part of worship and then will be dismissed to their classrooms with their leaders. They can sit with their parents or join us in the front rows at the start of service. Our youth are invited to join us for our regular lunch and fellowship after service. The Prayer team will be available at the front of the sanctuary toward the end of the service to pray with those who would like to receive prayer.

  • We are having a Oaxaca Team meeting for our missions trip (October 18-26th), after service this Sunday, August 18th. At this meeting, we'll hear from Dave Miller, who leads the ministry with Adventures in Life, and learn more about specifics of our trip. Lunch will be provided. Email Pastor John Jay with any questions.

  • Our Yarn Craft Group welcomes any crafty knitters or crocheters to join the biweekly fun in the Parlor after worship this Sunday, August 18th. Bring snacks to share (optional) and a water bottle. Email Whitney or Justine if you have any questions.

  • The Friends In Deed food pantry item this week is pasta and pasta sauce.

Brewington-Mathis Meal Train

  • We rejoice with Galvin and Tyler as they celebrate welcoming Baby Noah into their family. Thank you to several folks who have already signed up for meal delivery. We are thankful Noah came home from the NICU today! If you’d still like to join the train, click here: Meals for Galvin & Tyler

Community Events

  • You’re invited to a birthday celebration for Friends In Deed! They have served the Pasadena community for 130 years and invite everyone to attend a celebration event at First United Methodist Church of Pasadena from 5-8pm on Thursday, August 22nd. There will be food, activities, and a walk down memory lane. Register here to attend.

  • On the same day, Thursday, August 22nd, from 6-8pm, you are also invited to join LA Voice for a fun event at Heritage Museum to honor leaders in our community and raise funds to sustain work. You can click here to buy tickets to this event—bonus if you try to attend both nonprofit events in one day (kidding)!

  • Our FBCPride Group is regrouping after summer break. Enjoy a potluck lunch after worship on Sunday, September 1st, in the Southside Room. If you’re newer and would like to check out the group, please do! The LGBTQ+ community, parents and allies 16+ are welcome. Text “pride” to 626.727.9498 to let us know you’re coming. Feel free to bring a friend. Last year we met in the evenings; however, this year we will meet at lunchtime after worship. More details to come at the lunch!

  • Our next monthly Grief Group meets on Sunday, September 22nd, at 9am in Room 214. It is a space for anyone experiencing grief or loss to be with others in a similar season. Reach out to Jon Rinkus if you are interested in joining this group. Jon is a trained Hospital Chaplain through Fuller and provides a rich space for folks to process grief.

Small Groups

  • We are excited to launch small groups mid-September and we have heard interest from quite a few folks. You can text “small” to 626.727.9498 if you’d like to join the fun, and we will follow up with more information. These groups will create opportunities for growth and formation in the context of an intimate circle of belonging in homes around the city. Email Pastor Lindsay with questions.
